First the tree, then the market: visionary shopfitting EDEKA Pfitzmann
When you think of Usedom, seagulls, beach chairs, and maritime blue and white usually come to mind. But in Heringsdorf, the new EDEKA Pfitzmann shows that es completely different. A market has been created here that deliberately breaks with convention and instead focuses on a bold, urban concept that you would expect to find in Berlin-Kreuzberg or London.
A mangrove tree as the centerpiece
The history of this market is extraordinary: often, the shopfitting is planned first shopfitting then the decoration is chosen. Here, es was es . Mr. Pfitzmann's vision was clear even before the first floor plan was drawn: a real mangrove tree would form the centerpiece of the fruit and vegetable department. The entire layout was developed around this natural monument—a statement of individuality and attention to detail.
Street art meets vintage charm
As soon as you enter, it becomes clear: this market is a creative journey of discovery.
Graffiti art: The back wall of the fresh food counter was individually designed by a graffiti artist—an urban contrast to the classic supermarket atmosphere.
Material mix: Real wood boards , rough brick, and vintage elements lend texture and history to the space.
Urban Jungle: Hanging plants are everywhere, and combined with a consistent lighting concept using warm LED strips, they create an atmosphere that is more reminiscent of a cozy café or market hall than a classic local grocery store.
Independent yet harmonious
What makes the retail design of this project so special is that each department has its own unique design, yet the store still feels like a unified whole. The consistent use of natural materials and the well-thought-out lighting concept create a harmonious overall picture that slows customers down and invites them to linger.
