OrganiQ – a sustainable alternative to wood

With OrganiQ, Kesseböhmer has created a material that offers a viable alternative to solid wood. While solid wood does sequester greenhouse gases and is biodegradable, es there is not enough wood regrowth worldwide to meet the increased demand. To effectively protect biodiversity and combat climate change, approximately two billion cubic meters wood of bark can be harvested globally. In 2020, the volume of harvested wood ranged from 4.3 to 5 billion cubic meters—meaning that up to two billion cubic meters wood are being extracted from forests annually in excess of what is needed. With wood alternatives such as OrganiQ, which consists of equal parts of the fast-growing natural fibers hemp and kenaf, global timber resources are not subjected to additional strain.
